I’m always on the look out for inexpensive family entertainment, what I find I try to list on this page. Look at the very bottom of this page to see some details of things going on soon and not to be missed!

In my blog I write about our visits to local things such as restaurants … click on the ‘food’ tag.

Our favourites Thanet places include:

1. cafes – The Look Out Ramsgate westcliff, The Dalby Cafe in Cliftonville, Barbara’s Baps in Garlinge, Merlin at the Spitfire Museum

2. restaurants – Surin & Bon Appitite in Ramsgate, Smugglers in Birchington, and Tamarind in Broadstairs.

3. bars – Miles Bar in Ramsgate, Kabuki in Margate.

The official Thanet Tourist website has good details of the local area, places to go, what to look out for and forthcoming events, see www.visitthanet.co.uk

This website is excellent, you can download leaflets which is handy for those with internet access. The Ramsgate Tourist Information Centre is only open when every one is at work, not at the weekends. Although it is in the heart of the Ramsgate town centre it is so well concealed that only the most determined of explorers is likely to find it.

Some events to put in the diary:

Roc Doc walks – Regular & FREE - www.thanetcoast.org.uk

The Grange in Ramsgate  –  Open Days – www.landmarktrust.org.uk -.

Margate Rocks Festival of Contemporary Visual Art (May)

Margate Big Event – Palm Bay (June). I seem to remember this is when all roads to and around Thanet are grid locked and many people miss the big event. If you must leave your house – walk!

Lesbian & Gay Pride event in Margate Sat 18th july 2009-   www.thanetpride.co.uk

Broadstairs Folk Week - 2nd week in August: www.broadstairsfolkweek.org.uk

Ramsgate Regatta – Aug – www.rtyc.com/ramsgateweek.htm

Things to see, places to visit, perhaps?www.turnercontemporary.org/

Margate – Shell Grotto (don’t be put off by the name) www.shellgrotto.co.uk

Birchington – Powel Cotton Museum (Friends Open day 17th April) www.quexmuseum.org

Manston – RAF Museum & Spitfire museum (with highly commendable cafe!)

The Museum at Dover should not be missed, watch the film about one of the oldest boats archaeologist have salvaged.

Sandwich is beautiful and has a fascinating history which you can explore for free on foot on a dry day.

Real golf is a favourite pass time of Mr T.P. At Westbrook there is excellent minigolf. www.strokesadventuregolf.com

Mr TP and I get seriously competitive. So, if you see a small boy looking bored and neglected, he is with us! www.manstongolf.co.uk

For those of us from the west of the U.K., Windmills are a curious feature of this part of the world: eg. Margate and Sarre.

At present we have plenty of Cinemas to choose from, will this last? I would urge cinema goes to support the local independent cinemas.

There are great cinemas in Westgate-on-sea and Broadstairs. Thanet Film Club arrange screenings on Tuesday evenings at 8pm at the www.thepalacecinema.co.uk Palace Cinema in Broadstairs.

Cinema in Ramsgate – www.windsorcinemas.co.uk And in Westgate-on sea www.reeltime-cinemas.co.uk Anything happening in the very busy Minster village will be here: www.minster-in-thanet.org.uk/index.shtml
